I am a health professional with over 16 years of experience in academia, health systems research, and policy analysis. My career reflects a strong commitment to advancing transformative education and pioneering research across Kenya and Africa. I have consistently worked at the nexus of academia, research, and policy to generate evidence that informs practice and improves lives. My expertise spans health systems and policy analysis, community and primary health care, reproductive, maternal, child, and adolescent health, non-communicable disease prevention, and HIV/AIDS integration.
In my academic leadership journey, I currently serve as a Senior Lecturer at the School of Science and Engineering, Daystar University, and previously as Deputy Director at the Directorate of Research, Innovation, Commercialisation, and Entrepreneurship. I have also held senior faculty positions at the Presbyterian University of East Africa, where I was Director of Research and Development and Academic Lead for Nursing and Midwifery Program; at the Aga Khan University East Africa, where I served as Assistant Professor and Regional Research Coordinator for Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania Campuses; and at the Great Lakes University of Kisumu, where I was the Founding Director of the Nursing Department and later Campus Director for the Nairobi Campus. At GLUK, I spearheaded the development of the Bachelor of Nursing program, established a university clinic, and built community health partnerships. Earlier in my career, I worked as a Teaching and Research Assistant at the University of Ottawa, Canada, and have served as adjunct faculty and external examiner for Maseno University, Kenya Methodist University, and Rongo University.
My research and research Capacity leadership experience includes serving as Associate Research Scientist at the African Population and Health Research Centre (APHRC), where I led NCD prevention policy studies across six African countries, the coordinated the multi-country-multi-intuitional doctoral training program known as the Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa (CARTA), and directed the East and Southern Africa Health Policy Research Organisation (HPRO) under the IDRC-funded Innovating for Maternal and Child Health in Africa (IMCHA) project, working with 13 research teams across six countries. As a Research Associate at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), I led multi-country studies on health sciences research investments in Botswana, Kenya, and Zambia. I have also collaborated extensively with ministries of health and international partners in health policy development, training of health managers, and designing systems improvement programs. My research applies mixed methods, with emphasis on qualitative approaches, enriched by systems thinking and gender analysis frameworks. I have authored 40 publications, including three book chapters, contributing significantly to advancing health systems knowledge and policy.
