First Cohort of Mission and Theology

On 29th April 2024, Daystar University School of Mission and Theology received its first cohort of students for a one-year of intensive training. The 19 participants are drawn from diverse professions including Education Civil Engineering, Law, Veterinary Medicine, Psychology, Social Work, and Small Business Owners.  The program is domiciled at the main campus Athi River, where the students, mostly international, reside.

The training is aimed at deepening the understanding of the Bible, developing leadership skills, discipline people in their communities, helping meet felt needs of communities and share understanding of the Christian faith.

The program utilizes the problem-based learning (PBL) method of instruction through mentorship and interaction where learning is collaborative, not competitive. It uses a Study Guide with inputs from videos, audio learning, selected readings, and solving problems in discussion groups.

Some of the Learning Units include Creating Understanding, Knowing God, How to Study the Bible, Theology for African Living, Knowing My Culture, Understanding the Bible, Servant Leadership, and Hidden Conflicts.  Studies are guided by mentors who personalize the instruction.

The one-year program is geared towards equipping mature, competent leaders and will run every year for five years with different groups.

In turn, those trained will raise new leaders in the pattern of 2 Timothy 2:2, “The things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.”

In five years, close to 100 participants will be equipped for leadership in contexts that are unreached by the gospel.
