About

He has lectured Accounting, Finance and Enterprise development for over 20 years, and has special interest in Sustainability Accounting. He has been the Director Strathmore Enterprise Development Centre and Strathmore Research and Consultancy Company. He is a BA (Hons) and MBA graduate of the University of Nairobi, PhD and Associate Professor of Accounting and Sustainability Strathmore University. He is a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPA(K). Prof. Wangombe served as the Dean, School of Management and Commerce, Strathmore University, Kenya for 10 years. Prof. David Wangombe has been the Vice-Chancellor designate Tangaza University college and University of Kigali.

Prof. Wangombe is currently the lead consultant in the Development of Resilience Strategies for Five cities in Kenya, a World Bank Funded project, under the State Department of Housing and Urban Development ending in February 2023. He developed the current strategic plan of the Kenya Pharmacy and Poisons Board. For over 10 years, Prof Wangombe built capacity for Healthcare Leaders in Africa under the Management Development Institute (MDI) a joint project of the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), Africa Medical and Research Foundation(AMREF), funded by the Johnson and Johnson. 

Professor Wangombe has trained over 15,000 entrepreneurs with banks and enterprise centres around the country.  He has trained over 1,000 African faculty on case methodology under the Partnership for Pedagogical Leadership in Africa (PEDAL), a program of PASGR that seeks to improve faculty pedagogical skills. He has been a facilitator and mentor for Faculty Development Program, in case teaching and writing program under the Association of African Business Schools, AdamSmith International (training faculty of Nepal School of Government-Kathmadu).

Professor Wangombe has worked with the Partnership for African Social and Governance Research (PASGR) and was involved in the development of a collaborative Master of Research and Public Policy (MRPP) curriculum. Under the PASGR, Professor Wangombe trained and mentored 12 African universities on how to use case methodology in teaching MRPP. He also trained 65 Deans and 25 Vice-Chancellors of Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) which is a member–based consortium of 66 Universities in 26 countries in Africa.

Prof. Wangombe has been a consultant with several organizations including, Strathmore Business School (SBS), Adamsmith International, Partnership for African Social and Governance Research (PASGR), Kenya Commercial Bank and Strathmore Research and Consultancy Company (SRCC). He has trained in Corporate Financial Management and Oversight to Board of Directors and Senior Managers of virtually all major companies in East Africa.

Prof. Wangombe is an alumnus of the International Faculty Development Program (IFDP) of IESE Business School (2008) and Teaching the Practice of Management (TPM). Prof. Wangombe has published several refereed articles and presented academic papers in several research conferences focusing on environmental and sustainability reporting. He has authored several books used in both university and professional accounting studies including "Advanced Accounting, Theory and Practice" and "Fundamentals of Accounting". He has also written several cases for teaching particularly business executives.
