Dr. Sarah Mercy Malaki is a Clinical Psychologist, educator, and mental health leader dedicated to strengthening psychological wellbeing, family systems, and community mental health in Kenya and beyond. She holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology, with her doctoral research focusing on the effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in reducing compassion fatigue among caregivers of children living with physical disabilities. Her work contributes to evidence-based practice, caregiver support, and culturally responsive mental health interventions.
Dr. Malaki is a consultant, who provides strategic leadership in mental health service delivery, workforce wellbeing programs, and psychosocial support services. She oversees multidisciplinary teams, designs resilience and engagement programs, and ensures quality assurance in clinical and community mental health interventions across various organizations.
She is also deeply involved in academia. Dr. Malaki teaches and supervises students across diploma, undergraduate, and master�s programs in psychology and counseling. Her professional interests include clinical assessment, marriage and family therapy, ACT-based interventions, psychopathology, and the integration of faith and psychology in practice. She is passionate about mentoring emerging psychologists and enhancing the quality of psychological training across institutions.
Driven by a strong calling to serve vulnerable populations, Dr. Malaki aspires to establish an addictions treatment centre and a psychological assessment centre to increase access to specialized care. Her vision is grounded in a commitment to evidence-based practice, community empowerment, and holistic healing.
Known for her hard work, resilience, diligence, and deep compassion, Dr. Malaki combines clinical expertise with strong leadership and a genuine passion for people. Her work continues to impact students, clients, families, and communities as she advocates for mental health awareness, professional excellence, and transformative care.
Dr. Sarah Mercy Malaki is able to teach a wide range of courses across both the Diploma and Undergraduate levels in psychology. Her expertise spans foundational areas such as counseling theories, basic and advanced counseling skills, human development, abnormal psychology, and ethics. She is also well-equipped to teach specialized subjects, including psychological assessment, trauma and crisis intervention, marriage and family counseling, and research methods. With her strong clinical background and broad academic experience, she is competent to handle any psychology course offered by Daystar University, the School of Psychology.

Dr. Sarah Mercy Malaki�s research interests lie at the convergence of clinical psychology, disability studies, and family systems. She is particularly drawn to interventions that strengthen the wellbeing of caregivers and vulnerable populations, with a special focus on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and its application in reducing compassion fatigue and enhancing psychological flexibility. Her work also explores marriage and family dynamics, mental health within faith-based communities, trauma-informed care, and culturally grounded approaches to psychological assessment and intervention. Dr. Malaki is committed to generating evidence that supports accessible, ethical, and contextually relevant mental health services across diverse Kenyan communities.
