Dr. Erneo Nyakundi Nyamboga is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, award winning court reporter and seasoned journalism practitioner, and an accredited Media Law and Ethics trainer. He is widely regarded as a turn‑to encyclopedia on law and ethics for professional journalism in the Kenyan media and communication space, blending expertise in law with deep experience in journalism and media communication.
He holds advanced degrees in Communication (Ph.D., Moi University), Journalism (M.A., Mysore University), Law (LL.B., University of Nairobi), and Sociology (B.A., University of Nairobi), alongside a Postgraduate Diploma in Law (ATP) from the Kenya School of Law. He is currently pursuing an LL.M. at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
Dr. Nyamboga’s professional career began in the Kenya Civil Service, where he served for five years as a trained probation and aftercare officer. He later transitioned into journalism, joining Kenya’s top‑tier media house, the Standard Media Group, where he rose through the ranks from cub court reporter to senior court reporter, chief court reporter, editor – courts, and ultimately senior editor – legal. He also became a respected weekly columnist, authoring the Corridors of Justice and Bench Watch columns, which shaped public understanding of Kenya’s judiciary and legal processes.
He is a member of the East Africa Law Society, Law Society of Kenya, Kenya Editors Guild, and the Media Council of Kenya, reflecting his dual professional identity in law and journalism.
In academia, Dr. Nyamboga began as a part‑time lecturer at Daystar University in 2008, teaching news writing, editing, and media law. He later joined Moi University as an assistant lecturer, rising to senior lecturer in journalism, media, and communication. In 2024, he joined Daystar University on sabbatical leave from Moi University, and in 2025, he resigned from Moi to take up a full‑time position at Daystar University as Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Public Law.
Dr. Nyamboga is an astute qualitative researcher and an award‑winning thesis supervisor, recognized by Daystar University’s School of Communication for supervising the Best PhD Thesis in 2024. He has successfully mentored 15 PhD research thesis students to completion—nine at Daystar University and six at Moi University.
His specialization spans Communication and Media Law, Ethics, Human Rights Law, News Writing, Editing, and Research Methodology. An accomplished author, he co‑wrote Journalists and the Rule of Law (Konrad‑Adenauer‑Stiftung) and edited the Kenya Editors Guild’s A Guide to Court Reporting in Kenya. He has published extensively on media law, digital television, and social media regulation.
