[Nairobi: May 23, 2026] The Daystar University Alumni Association (DUAA), held its Annual General Convention at the Nairobi Campus.
The Ag. DUAA Global Board Chair, Ms. Anne Kaari, was represented by Mr. Maurice Kioko, who is also a member of the Board. Other members of the Global Board present were Dr. Margaret Sirma, Ms. Josephine Chepkoech, and Mr. Jesse Masai, who joined virtually.
The Secretariat members present included the Director of Alumni Affairs Dr. Leah Komen, together with Mr. Walter Nalwa, Ms. Marion Cherono, and Mr. Moses Tibagye. The University Management was represented by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Laban Ayiro, who attended virtually, affirming the presence of institutional leadership at the gathering.
In her opening remarks, Dr. Sirima thanked alumni for the high attendance which she noted was a clear indication of trust the alumni had in their alma mater.
“We are here today because of what Daystar University did for us, and my prayer is that our membership will continue to increase,” she said, adding that the convention would feature updates and performance reports from various association offices.
Dr. Sirima graduated in 2023 with a PhD in Clinical Psychology.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Laban Ayiro reminded the alumni of their higher calling, stating that Daystar University is part of the bigger Kingdom of God.
"You, our alumni, are the endearing testimony that a Christ-centered institution does not end at graduation," Prof. Ayiro said, adding that due to their spiritual depth, Daystar continues to transform lives.
The VC also observed that alumni carry a divine imprint that goes far beyond a degree certificate because wherever they go, they become ambassadors of truth, carrying influence and compassion. He specifically thanked the Director of Alumni Affairs, Dr. Leah Komen, for her dedicated efforts.
“You are the extended hands of Daystar across the world,” he said, further describing the alumni as a "living harvest of Daystar University.
The Vice Chancellor rallied the members to support the ongoing construction of the university chapel, emphasizing that the project would stand as a lasting testimony to their alma mater.
Mr. Walter Nalwa, presented the secretariat report highlighting key achievements in student support and infrastructure initiatives, which included:
- Student Support, which has sponsored 14 students through the Last Mile Initiative.
- Endowment Fund: he revealed that the Board had secured a Ksh 1.5 million matching fund through Daystar US to support alumni endowments.
- Chapel Construction: Alumni have donated 900 bags of cement against an initial pledge of 1,000 bags towards building the new chapel.
Mr. Nalwa also outlined four key strategic events and future opportunities for local and international growth, including the Alumni Awards Gala Dinner, scheduled for late September 2026.
Also planned is a Mega Career Fair designed to mentor students by connecting them with industry players, and the development of a formal Chapter Engagement Framework to sustain international networks, among other activities.
Presenting the Treasurer’s report, Mr. Maurice Kioko revealed that the Association recorded a total income of Ksh 6.1 million, driven by annual membership fees, merchandise sales from the Alumni Shop, and symposium sponsorships.
With total expenses standing at Ksh 4.0 million, he said the Association achieved a net surplus of Ksh 2.1 million. Looking ahead, Mr. Kioko noted that the Association had set an ambitious long-term fundraising goal of Ksh 25 million.
Moving a vote of thanks, Daystar alumnus Mr. Moses Tibagye expressed gratitude to the University Management, members of the Global Board, the Secretariat, the Corporate Affairs Department, and all the alumni who participated both virtually and physically.
He offered special recognition of former University Registrar Mrs. Nikita Arao, who was also present, for her dedicated service, underscoring the spirit of appreciation and community that marked the convention.
Through these combined efforts, the Daystar University Alumni Association remains deeply committed to rallying over 27,000 graduates worldwide to build a holistic, connected community of Daystarians.
