About
Prof. Zablon Nthamburi holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from Claremont University, USA, a Master of Theology (MTh) from Southern Methodist University, Perkins (1974), and a Diploma in Theology from The University of East Africa, Makerere (1969). Prof. Zablon Nthamburi has taught Religious Studies at Kenyatta University (1979-1999) and Africa Nazarene University since 2009 where he also served as the Academic Registrar since 2011.
In 2008, Prof. Nthamburi served as Deputy Vice Chancellor, Resource Mobilization and Development at the Kenya Methodist University. Since 2004, he served in various capacities at Kenyatta University, including Chairman, Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies; Member of Promotions and Appraisal Committee; Member of the Executive Committee, School of Humanities and Social Sciences; Member of Faculty Academic Board; and Member of Departmental Academic Board, Religious Studies – Kenyatta University.
Prof. Nthamburi has previously served as a Member of the Daystar Company Limited until 2014 when he retired before resuming in 2018; Other leadership portfolios her has held include Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Coffee Development Fund; Trustee and Board Member, Mission for Essential Drugs and Supplies (MEDS; Trustee, Christian Health Association of Kenya (CHAK); Member of the Taskforce on the Establishment of Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission of Kenya; Member of the National Constitutional Review in Kenya, 2003; Member of the Dialogue Committee, Methodist and Roman Catholic churches, World Methodist Council (2002); Member, Daystar University Council (2001); Trustee, All Africa Conference of Churches, and Chancellor, Kenya Methodist University, (1997– 2002). He was Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church in Kenya (1992–2002); Chairman, National Council of Churches in Kenya; Secretary, Conference of African Theological Institutions; President, World Conference of Associations of Theological Institutions (1988 -1993); and Chairman, National Council of Churches in Kenya (1994-1996). Prof. Nthamburi is widely published both nationally and internationally.
